The third of four introductory tutorials on getting started with BearFlix. It is recommended that BearFlix already be installed and set up on your computer, and connected to the Gnutella Network. If it is not, please read the Installation/ Setup and Getting Connected pages first. Detailed information about BearFlix can be found in the User Guide starting with the Using BearFlix section. |
How to search for files
In BearFlix click the Search View button on the View bar, the one with the
magnifying glass. A picture of it is above, under the title of this
page.
In the Find: field type any search term you want, and be specific. For example, if you're looking for a certain mpeg video clip, do not simply type "mpeg". You should type the name of the file, or the keywords describing its content which will bring you more relevant results.

(Optional) If you are looking for a certain type of file, go to the Type field, from which you can choose a file type. Simply click the little down arrow to reveal the choices you have, then click the file type you desire.

(Optional) If you want to fine-tune your search, the button offers other options such as file size requirements and keyword filtering.
After you have entered a search term and other information, click the button.
Depending on the availability of the file you searched for, you will begin to see results in the Results pane, organized into columns.
These columns provide useful information about the files you have found. There are many columns, but only a few are showing by default. The others can be activated by right clicking any column header to bring up a list of all available columns. Click the one you want in the list, and it will appear alongside the existing columns. BearFlix will remember this setting, so you only have to activate a column one time.
More detailed information about running searches, and other features of searching, can be found on the Search tutorial page in the User Guide.
Now that you know how to search for files, go to the next page to learn how to download those files!
