Uploading/Sharing FAQ

Click on a question to find an answer to your frequently asked question. If you can not find your answer here try our other BearFlix FAQ subjects.

Q: I see someone requesting '/' from me, what is this?
A: Some older Gnutella servents that connect to BearFlix use this to get a complete list of your shared files. BearFlix no longer supports this but some of the old servents are still around and requesting '/'. It is safe to ignore these requests. The modern way to request files is with the Browse Host function.

Q: Why can't I unshare newly downloaded files?
A: You can, but it's not immediately obvious. To save on processing power, and to help you avoid downloading files you already have, the downloads folder will always be included in the Library, which appears to be forcing the sharing of new files, but that is not the case. To unshare newly downloaded files go to Library, and in the left pane expand the All Folders group by clicking on the [+] to the left of it. Your downloads folder will be shown in bold. Select it, right-click on it, then deselect the Shared option in the popup menu that appears. New files you download will now not be shared until you explicitly elect to share them.

Q: Why does no one share the files I upload to them?
A: If you search for a file you have recently finished uploading to someone it is common to not find it on the network. This may be because the other user (the downloader) is not immediately sharing it (which is sensible, you should check files before allowing them to be shared on the network), or more likely for a some of reasons listed here; but it is out there. The downloader has renamed the file, or believed it to be a different before downloading it from you. Your search does not reach the downloader, searches rarely reach a significant portion of users because there are just too many users. Your search reached them but they were unable to respond because they are too busy uploading files to other users. Your search could reach them but BearFlix stopped searching because it received too many other results. The downloader is currently offline but do share the file in question when they are online. Do not be discouraged if you see no effect from your uploading. Every little bit helps so do please share, even if only at a low speed.
